Miles and more

I just recieved my membership card for the program *miles and more* from a flight company, and this is what came to my mind as i had to type the title for this entry. The main reason for this is that i have the impression to be knitting miles and miles of stockinette for the project I am now going to start the last piece.
Worse, i have to cencentrate, as i often do mistakes (when am i not doing any could be a problematic question to answer, it's true), by knitting the stitch below the one i am suppose to, creating an unesthetic hole as i do so. I've been ripping on this project, once again. But not that much, so i'm looking forward starting on knitting through the main piece number 2 of the cardi i've started during the summer. Optimistic as i am, i didn't have the idea that knitting the front of such a cardigan could be so long, and represent so many stitches, even though it is quite obvious from the picture.

I had started with this special yarn i bought in Aachen last spring, like some go to an adventure. I had knit a swatch of this Cahsmere Flavour from Noro, a yarn which is sold under the Görg und Görg label and this was the only prep i did. I had no idea how many grams, or how many meters i had.

Like, so.

I've been lucky because after knitting one front, the back, and the 2 sleeves, i had still a little bit of yarn. Not enough to knit the second front, but the lenghth of the yarn had been quite impressive. As i returned to Brussels I weighted this time on my little ikea balance which has a gram graduation, and saw that out of 100 grams, i still had 10. The first front weighting about 30 grams .

So last week-end when we were in Aachen with Sophie
and a non-knitting friend, my only purchase for myself was 50 grams of the precious yarn. I also got a bit more yarn, but not for me! Unemployment means diminished resources, and honestly, my stash can help me go through a lot of knitting. So i enjoyed this shop very much, i was glad to be with another knitter who was buying, and to push my non-knitting friend to come back to it (well i didn't push her that much, she was running into the walls of beautifully coloured wool anyway with huge eyes and *hungry fingers* - I guess that makes her an even better friend :-) ).

So now, off to some miles long stockinette :

The end of the long Knit Along

Finally, my long lasting denim knitalong is finished, and i can face the future with a lighter back. Only a bit lighter, mind you, because i have quite a few WIPs which still have to be examined, restarted, and hopefully...finished. But for the moment, I will happily enjoy the latest FO.
Behind it hide quite a few stories, deceits, surprises and abandon, but i am so happy it has a good ending! I started it august 2004, finished in September 2006, so it took me a bit more than 2 years. Only.

All in all, what i had the most difficulty with were the fronts. I was definitely not concentrated enough to follow or understand, or both of them, the pattern, so i had to rip each front 3 times when arriving at the armholes.
But i really, really like the result. I didn't stop wearing it since the last bit of the finishing a week ago with the zipper was done. To sew the zipper in, I followed the very good Chick Knit tutorial , which helped me to prevent another mistake, another ripping-unsewing. Ouf, this was close...

I know it's kind of weird that I don't stop wearing it, and that I wasn't caught on a picture with my newly-finished Bomber, esp as we had a twice a Stitch&Bitch at my place, and that we went touristy two days ago...but I keep my chances open, and as soon as I have a showable picture of me & my new favourite FO, it will be shown.
True, the knitting was long, true, I had blue fingers all along. But my needles didn't get blue, as I used inox needles, and as i followed all Polly's good advices (en françaisici ), I didn't have bad surprises. The knitting took so long, because these pockets were difficult for me, I never had done any like them, but it was worth the effort, and that is maybe what I like the most of it. Or is it the colour? Or the nice touch? Or the fact that i finished it? I LOVE MY BOMBER!!!! Well now, i guess i was clear enough...

To resume :

Pattern : Bomber , from Denim People.
Yarn : denim from Rowan, shade Nashville (the darkest, as i wanted the blue fingers), 17 balls (one more than stated, because of the changes i did).
Size : L, fits medium me.
Changes : added 5 pre-shrink centimers in the lenghth of the body.

Now on my needles :

Shriek , from the Rowan Mag n°32. Detail of the wonky stitches here

This weekend on Saturday, went to Aachen with Sophie and a non-knitting (there is hope there), non-blogging friend, for a bit of tourism, shopping, and a visit to Bomber where I had previously bought the lace Noro I was short of some 30 grams. SoOOO only a few kilometers of stocking stitch to go to finish the cardi....

P.S. : I thought that after the 100th i could try it in English. Feel free to correct my mistakes...

100ème!
