Where we Reveal a Total Failure
I wanted to be bold.
I wanted to be smart.
I wanted to knit something « original ».
Add all this to a big bowl of stashed Rowan Cork and you get, if you’re wacky enough, the idea to knit this pattern :
It's Reveal from Leah Sutton, and it's from the Rowan Magazine number 34.
I remember I had an interest at first sight at this picture. Then I thought it would be a difficult pattern to fit. And left the idea aside.
About two weeks ago, in a bout of destashing fever, I thought I’d knit some of my Cork. 8mm needles, destashing’s easier this way : 8 balls were going to be used, and I'd quickly have another jumper still in time to wear before warmer weather… So I reviewed the interesting patterns, and this one came back "en force". I did some research on the net and on Ravelry… only to find that very few had attempted this knit. I thought it was maybe because of (good) taste. But I wasn’t against something « out of the ordinary ». What I noticed only later was that even fewer were actually wearing their finished garment. Am I the only unlucky knitter here ? Am I really gonna wear THAT :
The gauge is not very accurate if I check on the sweater (but I had it right with the sample). The sleeves are the good length, but they are so large. The body is fitting, but the deep-cut is so deep… the shoulders do not look like shoulders.
I'm wondering what to do now, and feel a bit desperate about another knit gone wrong. Should I be confident and continue following to the end the pattern???OR rip and start it again, making sure my gauge is better, or start a whole new pattern?
So I'm asking for help to decide what I should do...
Ah là là Stéphanie, tu aurais du te méfier de la façon dont le modèle tiiiire ses épaules en arrière sur cette photo. Tu sais ? C'est le coup du mannequin tourné en bretzel pour faire tenir le pull convenablement....
Je dirais : c'est faisable, mais 'faut rectifier le patron. Cette couleur est bien belle en tous cas !
trouve toi un mannequin (vivant s'il le faut!) et fait l'encolure en ajustant au fur et à mesure, c'est rattrapable.
je ne vois pas bien s'il y a des "bretelles" sur le modèle, je pense que cela finirait bien avec 2 petites bretelles!
c'est le moment de créer!

I would suggest that you rip it and re-knit it.
Posted by: polly at March 15, 2008 03:45 PMIf you look at the modeled pic, you will see that the garment has been pulled, and clipped, to the back. To look like the model you will need to borrow their photo stylist.
I hate when they do that !
I vote[d] that you rip and find something that will fit to knit. You are beautiful and will look stunning in that dark green.
C'est encore mieux en photo qu'au téléphone! Je suis d'accord avec Sophie, méfie-toi de ce mannequin! Maintenant je déferais tout parce que la laine est belle et que si tu finis ou refais tu seras quand même déçue. Bon, tu l'as tricoté en 8, ça va vraiment vite. Seulement je me demande pourquoi tu m'en parles au moment où je te raconte que j'ai fini mon petit haut en 12....
Posted by: Barbara at March 17, 2008 10:48 AMta couleur est sublime et je parie que le tien va mieux que l'original (l'encolure lui tombe sur le coude, les manches tirbouchonnent avec un amas au dessus de la poitrine, un peu court aussi) - peut être ne dois tu pas tout défaire...

Je serais d'ailleurs curieuse de voir le même manequin de dos, avec les épingles à nourrice qui lui tiennent le machin dans le dos. Sitôt détricoté, sitôt retricoté pour un modèle plus seyant.

I'd rip it-- the model is also wearing a baggy sweater, she just has hers pinned in back. I think it would be pretty easy to adapt the cool neckline to a different base pattern.

Moi je le trouve joli ce pull. Bon, évidemment, moi ça ne m'irait pas du tout mais bon...
Ca me fait penser que je dans la série travaux manuels, j'ai investi dans un manuel de noeuds celtiques pour me bricoler des bijoux perso et que ça ressemble assez à ça! Le côté noeuds de pulls irlandais, j'ai toujours eu un faible.
